Host Company: Relevance
Current Company: Haven Technologies
Eric Murphy graduated from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with degrees in Marketing and Entrepreneurship in 2013 and accepted a position in Orr Fellowship with Relevance, a digital marketing agency in Indianapolis. Orr presented him with myriad opportunities for personal and professional development but, above all, he enjoyed the camaraderie of the fellowship and fell in love with the city of Indianapolis. After getting laid off in 2015 and shutting down a failed entrepreneurial venture, Eric turned his focus to developing the skills needed to be a successful business manager. In 2016 he co-founded Haven Technologies with his parents, and together they set their sights on eliminating noise-induced hearing loss through intelligent hearing protection devices. While working part-time, Eric earned an MBA from Dartmouth from 2018-2020 and then returned to Indianapolis and Haven Technologies.
Eric touts the Fellowship as a strong source of his entrepreneurial development. He says Orr “plants entrepreneurship in the minds of its fellows and provides a framework for development down an entrepreneurial career path.” He maintains that the social and professional connections he made as a Fellow have continued to enrich his life, and that while in the Fellowship there was no shortage of people to whom to turn for advice. He says, “the more people you know, the better off you are, and in the Fellowship I always knew that I had an expansive network of friends and professionals to go to with any questions and for any sort of guidance.”
When asked to define success, Eric said that for him it is the ability to wake up every day and go to work pursuing his own dreams. He says he feels successful because he is “learning and growing every day, and in a position to help others learn and grow every day” as a result of his entrepreneurial ambitions.
